Update

I am at Kennedy Meadows and heading into the Sierra Mountains tomorrow.

I will be 9- 10 days before hitting town so there will be a delay before the next posts.

  1. Hope you can sort out your missing/lost items. What a drag!!!

I’m loving following along with your journey, for your wonderful photos and verbal chitchat, but particularly because I find your personality and reactions very positive.
Even losing your passport, money etc only prompted a plan to sort things out rather than a sad or angry outburst.

    Cheers, Julie

  2. It has been great following you on the PCT. I hope your days on the Sierras are not too difficult. I am planning to do the PCT next year and I have learned so much on your videos. Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us. Stay safe πŸ€—πŸ€—πŸ€—!

  3. Hello Restless Kiwi!
I have watched your YouTube videos and you do an awesome job making viewers feel like they are hiking right along side of you. I am obsessed with hiking and hope one day I will be able to hike the PCT. I am looking forward to seeing video from the Sierras as I heard the amount of snow is incredible this year. Wish you all the best getting through that incredibly tough leg. Although you likely will be reading this once it’s over so GREAT JOB! An exciting experience happened while hiking on the Washington side of the Columbia Gorge on Thursday 5/9. My friend and I encountered a cougar that was 10’ away!! It was amazing and incredibly scary all at the same time. Luckily we responded as we should have and he ran the opposite way never to be seen by us again. Looking forward to your upcoming posts and video.

    1. Thanks Megan. I really hope to be lucky enough to have a Cougar encounter like you.

  4. Wow, you’re really doing big miles! I’m loving it, and loving your blog.

You’re so early! And in a big snow year! On one hand, if you are experienced with the snow, and have the proper gear, you will fare better than those that come a month behind you. Hopefully, the streams won’t be too big and there will be snow bridges.

On the other hand, I’m in Sacramento tonight, and it sounds like a storm is coming in on Wednesday with snow levels down to 6000 feet around Tahoe, which is a lot lower than wherever you are tonight.

Good luck, my friend! I realize you probably won’t read this until you get out of the mountains (I did have service on Forester Pass), but on the off chance you see this while your still out there, I’m pulling for you and I’m on the edge of my seat waiting to see how it goes.

    1. Thanks Glide. It was fun in the snow.I was hit by only one storm that I was prepared for. I built snow walls around my tent so wind was not an issue. Just needed to shake snow off tent every 30 minutes. Didn’t do Mt Whitney because of this but did manage to continue over Forester Pass and out at Kersage Pass as planned. Physically tough but beautiful.

  5. Hi Kirstine,
Hope you are doing well and enjoying your time. Great to read about your adventures.
    Cheers Sue
